You're Outta Here Part 6 and 7!

Big news here at the Pheasants' house. We have been busy removing the wallpaper in the entryway, stairway, and the second floor common area. For those of you keeping track, we've now taken down wallpaper in seven areas and only have two more to go! Woohoo!

I have to give a shout out to Big Ken (my dad) for starting the process of removing the wallpaper back in October. He removed about half of it and I took down the rest. Remember this print? There was a lot of it!

We figured out that the wallpaper comes off fairly easy by steaming it for 15 seconds and then slowly peeling it up. It's a slow and tedious process, but works. Once the paper was off, there was still a fine layer of glue underneath. It's the brown/beige stuff in the picture below.

The glue also came off with a steamer and a wash cloth soaked in a Tri-Sodium Phosphate (TSP). We discovered TSP through our fine friends at Orchard Supply Hardware. They love us ($$$)! My Handy Man discovered that spraying it with baking soda water also took it off but required a bit more elbow grease. Here are a few pictures with bare walls.

Though we still have to figure out what to do about the ceiling and removing the very tip top of the wallpaper in the stairwell, it is so nice to have one more thing done.
