About Our Home

Welcome to our home! We are the proud owners of the Pheasant House in historic downtown Woodland, CA (north of Sacramento). The Handy Man and I bought our 1915 American Foursquare in 2014 and have been working diligently (and blogging about it not-so-diligently) to update and restore it under the watchful eyes of Frank and Phyllis, the two pheasants in our stained glass window. It's approx. 1,900 square feet with four bedrooms and one and a half baths. When we moved in, we inherited a cat named Cali.



About Us

Like most in this world, we are just trying to, in our own small way, make a better life for all of us. We love...

entertaining friends and family especially if it involves local wine or craft beer,
walking downtown for local eats and treats,
listening to a wide range of music (Bob Dylan to Kidz Bop),
exploring California and beyond,
connecting with our Midwest roots (go Jayhawks)
raising our two strong-willed daughters (Cinderella and The Baby), and
restoring and improving our home.

This is a BIG ONE! Laundry Room and 1/2 Bath Reno

One of the reasons why I'm not blogging as much any more is that we've checked a lot of "To Do" items off our list. Well, at least the small ones. What's left are the big, nasty, complex projects that, truthfully, are outside of the Handyman and my wheelhouse. I'm also a planner and these biggie (not Smalls) projects take a lot of thinking, and lets be honest, SAVING. Next on the how-to-renovate-this-old-home-for-our-modern-family-list , is remodeling our mudroom and 1/2 bathroom on the first floor. You may be asking yourself, "The guest bath? The laundry room?" Yes, the guest bath and laundry. What I really want to renovate is the 2nd floor main bathroom. What I really DON'T want to do is move out of our house or spend weeks showering/bathing at the gym.
