Grandmaster Bath: It's done-ish

As per usual, the project has wrapped and I'm not getting around to an update until a couple of weeks later.

Goodbye Mellow Yellow, Part 3

It's already mid-July? How did that happen? Of course we are still plugging along on the kitchen remodel. I think this marks two months without an oven/stove and a mudroom since our fridge takes up most of it. But, who's counting? By the end of May, Jesus had finished painting and we had our new Schoolhouse Electric Lights installed. Here's a close-up of the over-the-sink light. Since this picture was taken, we've exchanged the bulb with an Edison bulb. It's not as bright, but it's more period-appropriate.  Here are a few side by side shots of before and after painting. What a difference! Next post will be all about the floors and there is some drama involved!

Odds and Ends

Exciting times around the Pheasant's house! We have made a few small improvements here and there over the past few weeks while we prepare for a MAJOR upgrade. Major. Get ready! I digressssss.... I think the hardest thing about living in an old home is making your modern life (and things) fit. One small improvement was to the mudroom. I found the shelf at Potterybarn back in November and there was good and bad news. The bad news is that it was back-ordered for 7 weeks. I also finally got around to ordering a new hallway light for upstairs from my FAVORITE store, School House Electric. We swapped the shade that came with the house with this super cool gray-striped one. Big improvement! About the shade from the School House website: An exact replica from the classic Schoolhouse era of the 1900’s to the 1950’s. Th...

I {heart} School House Electric and a front porch update

As I drooled over the old homes in Lawrence, Kansas, where we lived for seven years, I dreamed of one day owning my own historic home. I would note websites and resources for my future home and fell in love with School House Electric , makers of iconic lighting and home furnishings, based out of Portland, Oregon. Their stuff is seriously cool, and I couldn't wait until I had a home worthy of their accouterments. On a recent work trip, I was able to stop by their showroom and it exceeded all my expectations. First, it has its own coffee shop and if you know anything about Portland, you know they are serious about their coffee. It was ah-mazing! The staff was also super friendly and helpful (read: they didn't call the cops when I wandered aimlessly for two hours while hopped up on caffeine) . Here are a few pictures (not great quality) from my visit.
